From Dr. Phil

"Are you low on your own priority list? We all tend to live reactive rather than proactive lives: We wake up every day and deal with what is thrown our way. When women look at their own priorities and where they spend their time, they're usually way down on the list or not on it at all. Are you always doing for others and never taking time for yourself because you think it's selfish? The truth is that we need mothers, not martyrs. We need women, not sacrificial lambs. If you don't take care of yourself, then you can't take care of others. If you run out of time before getting around to the simple things you want - and need - to do, then you've got to make yourself a higher priority. Try that Pilates class at the gym, curl up with a best-seller, put your feet up with a cup of coffee, listen to your favorite music, or take some time away from the house with absolutely nothing to do except be with yourself. If your life has become so programmed, so scheduled, and so committed that you don't have time to nurture yourself, then it's time to make a change." -O Magazine Jan. 2009 pg. 54

WOW! This article totally hit a bull's eye target with me today. At the risk of offending anyone in our colony who is not a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, I would like to share something completely ironic that happened today and this article by Dr. Phil.

No, I didn't talk with Dr. Phil himself, but I did spend time talking with a very dear friend who is a former mission president and currently serves as a Stake President in Wasatch County. He had individually challenged me to write my life's mission as I think it should be. Of course, I took the challenge head-on and created a list of 7 or 8 things I feel the Lord wants me to do before I die. The number 3 thing on my list read: "Become A Mother in Zion" to my two children."

Well, when I shared my list with him early this morning, we spent a long time talking about what exactly a "Mother in Zion" is. Basically, he told me that to become this way, I must FIRST take care of myself spiritually, emotionally, physically and financially so that THEN I can take care of my children and teach them the Gospel principals to live their lives by.

I just thought this was a total irony, and th ink that Dr. Phil would make a great Latter-Day Saint. Someone send him the Book of Mormon and some Missionaries!

What a GREAT challenge! I may just have to do that! Thank you!
